Tourism offers the grand road to India’s history, heritage, culture and the vibrant life. Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have opened its heart to tourism most generously and successfully. Madhya Pradesh won the Best State/Union Territory award for comprehensive development of tourism at the National Tourism Awards for 2014-15 announced recently by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. History, heritage and pilgrimage sites, eco-tourism and wildlife make the state the jewel in the Incredible India story. The innovative branding-campaigns makes MP the number one travel destination for tourists. Gujarat followed Madhya Pradesh for its beaches, temples, and wildlife. Sculpture, handicrafts and festivals make it a preferred tourism destination. Karnataka, blessed with cultural heritage, lofty hills, and three UNESCO World Heritage sites, won the third spot.

The monuments of Amarkantak, MP, won the Best Maintained and Disabled Friendly Monument award. Amarkantak, a religious site is also the origin of the Narmada and Som rivers. Considering the number of tourists visiting it, facilities such as wheel chair ramps, Braille boards, special toilets and pathways for the visually challenged have been implemented.

Sawai Madhopur Railway Station, Rajasthan won the Best Tourist Friendly Railway Station award.

It sees 138 trains stopping and 10,000 passengers daily. With the state of the facilities such as renovated retiring rooms, LED Lighting, bio-toilets, automatic ticketing machines, it was recently accorded the status of the ‘First Heritage Railway Station’.

Best Airport, Class X Cities, went to Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai. Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai, one of South Asia’s largest airports has the new iconic Terminal-2 that provides unmatched amenities to passengers and has an art museum.

Best Heritage City: Warangal, Telangana

Home to the historical and glorious Kakatiya Dynasty, Warangal, is a major urban centre offering educational, medical, and tourism facilities to the city and its neighbouring districts.
