Karnataka Expert to Launch First Indian Encyclopedia on Yoga

K Raghavendra Pai, a yoga expert from coastal Karnataka is set to launch an encyclopaedia on Yoga, touted to be the first of its kind by an Indian author. Titled ‘Yoga Vishwakosha’, the Kannada encyclopaedia will cover yoga and related sciences across several volumes.

Pai, former director, DM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, has already started work on the book. The first volume, to be released by Sri Vedavyasa Yoga Prathishtana, is expected to be out in a year and a half.

“We have encyclopedias on yoga compiled by foreign writers in the market. Similarly, there are many dictionaries in the market that are dedicated to yogic science. ‘Yoga Vishwakosha’ will be the first encyclopedia to focus on all aspects of yoga including asanas including ‘Anthariksha Yoga’ mentioned in ‘Sritattvanidhi’, written by Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar III, Maharaja of Mysuru,” Pai said.

Pai was recently awarded the ‘Vietnam Book of Records Certificate’ for setting two records: ‘Yoga exercise with the most sun salutation (Soorya Namaskara) rounds (1008 rounds)’ and ‘Longest Yoga Marathon with Sun Salutation’ in May 2016. He has participated in yoga sessions in Vietnam, Russia, Qatar, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
